Pvt players offer help to Cant hospital
PUNE: The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) has so far received six offers from medical groups and hospital chains in the city for assistance in setting up a super-speciality ward in the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cantonment General Hospital at Golibar Maidan.
The hospital, also known as cantonment hospital, has hundred indoor patient beds, five wards and an OPD and a staff of 25, including full-time resident doctors and nurses.

The Union government has funded the Rs 9-crore super-speciality ward. The project, delayed by over a year and half, is expected to take off in the second half of this year.
PCB chief executive officer S.K. Sardana termed the response to the call for private party assistance as "far beyond expectations". Among the bigwigs are Sohrab medical foundation, Apollo's Jehangir hospital and Unani medical foundation.
"All these parties have made their initial presentations before the board and we are waiting for the rest to come up with their proposals. Till then, it would be prudent not to reveal the names of the other three parties," Sardana said. A final decision would be taken once all the parties have made their presentations and the PCB general body has looked into the offers.
The PCB had called for private party assistance with the purpose of getting expertise in the fields of medicine and treatment. "A super-speciality ward would entail specialised treatment in various branches. The board's own medical resources are not adequate to deal with such a huge contingency," Sardana said.
The hospital is frequented by around 1,500 patients each day, mostly from the cantonment area and belonging to economically weaker sections.
Sardana said steps have been taken to shift all the wards to separate enclosures and the process would be completed before the onset of monsoon. The PCB had recently come under a lot of criticism for shifting various wards without considering patients' safety or hygiene.
